What is a tabata timer?

Tabata is a high intensity routine of eight rounds: 20 seconds of all-out work and 10 seconds of rest, four minutes in total. In Tapsle, set the timer to add one every 30 seconds with a target of 8. Each beep starts a new round, and the countdown shows when the 10 second rest begins.

How a Tabata round works

Each round is 30 seconds: 20 seconds of maximum effort and 10 seconds of rest. Tapsle beeps at the start of each round and the Next in countdown shows the time left, so rest starts when it reads 0:10.

More than one Tabata

For a longer session, set the target to 16 or 24 for two or three blocks back to back, or add a counter per exercise and run them one after another. The count always shows the round you are on.

Tabata timer questions

How does Tapsle do 20 seconds on, 10 off?

Set the timer to add one every 30 seconds with a target of 8. Each beep starts a round. Work for the first 20 seconds, and rest when the countdown shows 0:10.

Can I change the work and rest times?

Yes. Set the interval to your total round length, for example 45 seconds for 30 on and 15 off, and rest when the countdown reaches your rest time.

Can I do more than one Tabata?

Yes. Set a target of 16 for two blocks or 24 for three, and the count keeps going across them.

Is Tapsle free?

Yes. Unlimited counters, targets, steps, notes, lock, focus mode, pop out and export are free, with no account. Free includes up to 5 groups and 1 counter on a timer. Tapsle Plus adds sync, backups, longer history, shared counters and integrations, for $2.99 a month or $25.99 a year.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once Tapsle has loaded, counting keeps working with no connection, and you can install it on your phone or computer like an app. Your counts are saved on your device as you go.

Can I export my counters?

Yes, free. Export saves every counter to one file, and Import brings them back on any device. Your counts belong to you.

Can I keep the timer on screen while I train?

Yes, on Chrome and Edge on a computer. Choose Pop out and the Tabata timer floats above your workout video, still beeping and counting rounds. Phones and Safari do not support this, so the button only appears where it works.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your counters stay on your device. There is no account, and nothing is sent to us unless you turn on sync with Tapsle Plus.

What is the difference between Free and Plus?

Free is the counter: unlimited counters, up to 5 groups, 1 timer counter, targets, offline use, export and 7 days of history. Plus is memory: sync across up to 5 devices, nightly backups, 60 days of history with charts, shared counter links, unlimited groups and timers, and integrations. Cancelling Plus never removes a counter.

Four minutes. We will count them.

Free, no account, and every round is counted.
