What is the Pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro technique splits work into focused rounds, traditionally 25 minutes, each followed by a short break, with a longer break after four rounds. Tapsle runs the timer and keeps a count of the rounds you finish.

  • 25 minute focus rounds
  • 5 minute short breaks
  • A longer break after four
  • Rounds counted for the day

One card. It times the round and counts it.

The Pomodoro counter runs in timer mode: it adds 1 every 25 minutes, so the number is how many rounds you have finished. Set a target of 8 and turn on daily reset to start fresh each morning.

Is 25 minutes the right length?

25 minutes is the classic length and a good start. Many people move to 50 minute rounds with 10 minute breaks for deep work, or 15 minutes when a task feels hard to begin. Change the length in the counter settings whenever you like.

Why count your pomodoros

A finished round is a small, honest unit of progress. Counting them shows how much focused time a task really took, which makes the next estimate better. A daily target, such as 8, turns it into a habit you can see.

Pomodoro app or a kitchen timer?

The original technique used a tomato shaped kitchen timer. Here is what an online timer adds.

Pomodoro timer questions

How long is a Pomodoro?

Traditionally 25 minutes of focus followed by a 5 minute break, with a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes after four rounds. Tapsle lets you change any of these lengths.

Does Tapsle count my finished pomodoros?

Yes. The Pomodoro counter adds one each time a 25 minute round finishes, so its number is your total. Turn on daily reset and it starts from zero each morning.

Will it make a sound when the round ends?

Yes, if sound is on in your preferences. On phones that support it, it vibrates too.

Can I keep the timer on screen while I work?

Yes, in Chrome and Edge on a computer. Choose Pop out and the timer floats above your other windows, still counting down, with pause, +1 and −1 inside it. Phones and Safari do not support this, so the button only appears where it works.

Can I run more than one Pomodoro at once?

Free runs one timer at a time, which is all a Pomodoro needs. Tapsle Plus runs as many timers as you like, for example a focus timer and a separate break reminder.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once Tapsle has loaded, counting keeps working with no connection, and you can install it on your phone or computer like an app. Your counts are saved on your device as you go.

What is the difference between Free and Plus?

Free is the counter: unlimited counters, up to 5 groups, 1 timer counter, targets, offline use, export and 7 days of history. Plus is memory: sync across up to 5 devices, nightly backups, 60 days of history with charts, shared counter links, unlimited groups and timers, and integrations. Cancelling Plus never removes a counter.
