How long to boil an egg
For a large egg from the fridge into boiling water: 6 minutes gives a runny yolk, 7 a jammy one, 8 a medium yolk and 10 a firm one. Add a minute for extra large eggs, and take one off for medium.
Poached, coddled and quail
Poached eggs take about 3 minutes, coddled about 5, and quail eggs 2 to 3. Set the target and the count keeps track while you make the toast.
Egg timer or a sand egg timer?
A sand timer gives one fixed time. Tapsle times soft, medium and hard, and sounds when they are done.
